On Saturday, a Louisville woman met the man her grandson saved.
Yolanda Cargill and Jerry Royalty had never met each other before that day.
Cargill's grandson, Derrick, was killed in 2016. He donated his organs to six people.
Royalty received the teenager's heart.
The two met at the Legacy of Life 5K, an event that raises awareness for organ, tissue and eye donations.
"It's a joy," Cargill said. "It's a joy to hear his heartbeat."
"They're heroes to me, to make the conscious decision to donate life, because it helps so many people," Royalty said.
More than 300 people took part in Saturday's race.
Cargill was killed in May 2016 at Colorado and Lincoln avenues.
Police have not made any arrests in his case.
