An ovarian cancer patient could not believe her eyes as she was welcomed home to a surprise street parade by her family and friends.

Cristina Muneton, 58, was left emotional and without words when she returned home to her neighborhood in Jacksonville, Florida, USA, to discover those most dear to her holding balloons, hand-made signs and chanting Spanish celebratory songs.

The surprise had been arranged by her niece, Belkis Plata, 32, who wanted to celebrate her aunt finalising her battle to overcome the deadly disease.

[post_ads]Deciding to take advantage of Cristina being at less risk of infection or contamination on chemo days, Belkis organised for friends, family and their church community to come out and welcome her back with open arms, on July 24th.

Cristina’s reaction to the surprise welcome home celebration translates through her facial expressions and reactions, as she was comforted by her sister Luz and husband Alvaro.

Cristina was diagnosed with ovarian cancer back in February, 2018, and had to start chemotherapy treatment within two days of her diagnosis, enduring six rounds over a 148-day period.

Belkis, a criminal defense attorney, said: “At first, my aunt thought there was some type of protest and asked my uncle to drive in a different direction.

"It wasn’t until she started looking at the individual faces and reading the signs that she realised everyone was there for her.

“You can see the pure joy and feeling of love that she felt in the moments when she realised that all of the people that had lined the streets of her neighborhood were there for her.

“I think love transcends all languages, and it’s clear to witness my aunt’s genuine surprise and elation to see so many of the people she loves celebrate this achievement with her.”
